Dapper Day? What is this? Well, it is an unofficial Disney day where people come to the Disney Parks (Disneyland Resort, Walt Disney World, and Disneyland Paris) and dress up in their dapper best! This just means people come dressed up super fancy and vintage and roam around parks taking photos and just having a dapper day!
So now that you know what it is, I will talk about my Dapper experience this spring. You can also watch it (however I didn’t record a lot because I was a photographer for the day). Dapper Day was April 22-23, but I went on Sunday the 23rd. The first half, I was with my mom and sisters. We roamed around and took photos. We met with Tiana and Dr. Facilier, and rode Pirates. My sisters and mom and to leave early so we took a few more photos and parted ways.
I ended up meeting up with my friend Julia and her boyfriend. I hung with them and we received 10 FastPasses for Goofy’s Sky School! Then we rode California Screamin. Let me tell you about riding roller coasters with a vintage dress with a petticoat underneath: THE STRUGGLE! It makes sense why they didn’t have roller coasters back then with those dresses. Such an interesting experience. After we rode Radiator Spring Racers.
My cousins finally showed up and I parted ways with Julia and Jesse. After meeting up with all my cousins, we walked over to Paradise Pier and took photos. Had an awesome photo shoot with them. It got super cold super fast and we ended up walking around DCA and Disneyland. We concluded the night after watching a little bit of Main Street Electrical Parade.
I love Dapper Day because I enjoy how creative everyone is with their dapper outfits. The group bounds and couple bounds are always my favorite. I am hoping next time I can bound as something and then I will be able to participate in a group or couple bound.
It was a pretty fun trip and I cannot wait for the next one in the fall! Until then, stay tuned for more! Did you go to Dapper Day? Tell me all about it in the comments! 😀
So I thought I would do a Disney Tag! Now, I was just going to do a YouTube video of this but I figured it wouldn’t hurt to do a blog post, too! So let’s wish upon a star and get started! 😀
Favorite Disney movie. Ugh such a hard question but I think I will go with my all time favorite, The Lion King!
Walt Disney World or Disneyland? Well I have been to Walt Disney World only once and it is so magical. My home is Disneyland, born and raised! I love WDW because of the size and there are way more things to do but Disneyland is the original park that Walt built, finished, and walked on. So for that, I will have to say Disneyland!
Favorite Disney character. Again with an impossible question?! Ugh, okay I guess if I have to choose a favorite Disney character, it would have to be Stitch from Lilo and Stitch. But those who know me know how obsessed I am with the little blue alien!
First Disney movie you remember seeing in theaters? Wow, to be honest, I don’t remember seeing any of the movies I was obsessed over as a kid. But the one that immediately comes to mind is The Lion King II: Simba’s Pride. Not sure why I can remember those and not others.
What type of Disney item do you collect the most? Haha this question makes me laugh because I have way too many Disney items. But I think I collect maps from the Parks the most 🙂 I have so many haha
Favorite Disney song. Like just one? Wow, this is going to be very hard because I have way too many! It is so difficult to just choose one song. So maybe I will go with a song from Moana, “How Far I’ll Go”.
Favorite ride/attraction at the parks. OMG this is hard! But I think I will go with my gut and say Jungle Cruise. I love the cheesy jokes and the humor is awesome. Plus who can’t get tired of hearing “O-2-H”?
What would your dream job be at Disney? Hmm I think my all time dream job would be to be an animator. It has always been a dream to animate for the Walt Disney Studios!
A park character you’d never want to miss. Obviously it is Stitch! I try to see him when I go. He is definitely my favorite and he always knows my love for him. Besides, Stitch is cute and fluffy!
Your most treasured Disney item? Again! Another difficult question! I do have a few collector’s pins that are limited edition that I hold dear. I also have an autograph from Floyd Norman, the first black Disney animator. Oh, and my flag from opening of Toon Town.
Which Disney voice actor would you like to meet? Oh, this is a good one. At the moment, it would be a tie between Auli’i Cravalho of Moana and Robin Williams of Genie.
Favorite Disney movie that is not a classic/famous. Hmm there are so many! But I guess I will list a few: Oliver and Company, Atlantis, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, 101 Dalmations…I could honestly go on!
If you could say anything to Walt Disney, what would it be? Hmm I would tell him what a genius he is and how influential he has been in my life. What he created has helped shaped me and I am inspired by his magic.
Your favorite snack in the Parks. Easy! I love churros and Dole Whip Float!
Your favorite parade or show in the Parks. Too hard of a question as I have a lot but Fantasmic! is definitely a favorite along with Paint the Night and the “Remember, Dreams Come True” fireworks at Disneyland.
Flounder, Sebastian, or Scuttle? Flounder!
Your favorite Disney memory. I have made thousands of awesome memories because of Disney! But maybe I will go with a recent one. My very first trip to Walt Disney World. I vividly remember stepping into Animal Kingdom (the first park on my trip) and being in tears because I couldn’t believe I actually made it.
Do you have a favorite pair of Mickey ears? I actually don’t. I do not own a lot of Mickey ears, shockingly. But I do have a Marie ears that I love!
If you could, what “forgotten princess” would you add to the line up? I would say Kita from Atlantis!
Your favorite Disney princess dress/outfit. I love Belle’s ball gown. Ariel’s blue dress in the Parks is another favorite. And I love Tiana’s dress and her white flapper dress.
Your favorite Disney soundtrack. Why are these questions so hard to answer?? I have way too many so I will go with a current favorite: the Moana soundtrack.
Genie, Abu, Carpet, Iago, or Rajah? I will have to go with Genie!
Favorite restaurant at the parks? Hmm at Disneyland Resort, it is Rancho del Zocalo and WDW is Be Our Guest.
How did you first discover the “magic” of Disney? I am not sure. It was either from watching Disney movies repeatedly as a kid or going to Disneyland when I was 4 and meeting Ariel for the first time.
What attraction are you most likely to go to first when you’re at the parks? Hmm either Indiana Jones or (Hyper)Space Mountain.
Your favorite “iconic” moment? (ex. Ariel on the rock, Aladdin finding the lamp, Rafiki lifting Simba, etc.) Hmm I think when Tiana and Naveen kiss and transform into human form. It is animated so beautifully! Oh and Rafiki holding Simba definitely gives me the chills still to this day.
What’s the saddest moment for you in any Disney film? When Stitch sits in the middle of the forest with the Ugly Duckling book and says, “Lost”, when Ellie dies in UP, when Mufasa dies and Ray dies. They make me cry every time!
Best Disney kiss? Hmm a tie between Ariel and Eric and Jasmine and Aladdin!
If you could live in any world from a Disney movie, which would you choose? Atlantis, Atlantica, or Montinui.
Favorite Disney musical sequence based on spectacle/animation? So many favorites but I think I will go with a less appreciated one and say “Sorcerer’s Apprentice” from Fantasia 2000.
Which Disney princess has the best sidekicks? Hmm I love Rajah and Pua, so I would have to say Jasmine and Moana!
If you could have a party themed around any Disney movie, which one would you pick? Lol a four way tie between Atlantis, Moana, Lilo and Stitch, and Lion King.
Are you the only one obsessed with Disney in your family? Or does it run in the family? In my immediate family, I am truly the only one who is OBSESSED with Disney. My cousins are pretty obsessed with it too so Disney is a pretty big deal in my family.
Lumiere, Mrs. Potts, Cogsworth, or Chip? Hmm Lumiere.
What are your top five favorite Disney blogs on Tumblr? Well considering I don’t use my Tumblr, I would have to say none.
If you could choose the plot/adaptation for the next Disney movie, what would it be? I would love to see an African princess with lovable characters and she has to fight against the odds of evil within her tribe to protect the wildlife around her.
Favorite hotel at the parks? I haven’t stayed here yet but I love Art of Animation and Animal Kingdom Lodge at Walt Disney World.
Which Disney movie do you turn to when you’re sad/upset? Lilo and Stitch and Lion King.
The Aladdin show or The Little Mermaid show? Oooo so hard but I think Aladdin.
Do you plan to have/have you had your honeymoon at a Disney park? I have gone back and forth with this. If my future hubby would want to, I wouldn’t mind. A Disneymoon would be perfect though, especially if it involved all 6 parks!
Favorite piece of Disney clothing/accessory to wear? My dad bought me a Disney Pandora ring that I wear all the time.
Mickey Mouse or Donald Duck? Sorry, Mickey, but I have to say Donald Duck. He is bae lol.
What Disney movies/worlds would you like to see in the next Kingdom Hearts game? MOANA!!!!
Which Disney movie, even if it’s not your favorite, will always have a special place in your heart and for what reason? A Goofy Movie because it reminds me so much of when I was a kid and that whole movie sums up being a Disney loving kid in the 90s.
As Disnerds, we choose to openly express our love for Disney. To us, Disney has become such a huge part in our lives that we hardly think twice when we quote a Disney movie or compare things in reality to things at the Disney Parks. But for those people in our lives who really do not understand why we love Disney, it can be a real bother. So, in honor of this, here are some things Disnerds are tired of hearing:
You are going to Disneyland/Disney World…again? Yes, is that a bad thing? For those Disney fans who are annual passholders, we are seen going to the Disney Parks what may appear to be everyday. The Parks are a sanctuary from the cruel world, where we can really be a kid and not fear the being judged by non-Disney lovers. My thoughts? I paid all this money for a pass, so of course I am going to use it!
Do you own anything but Disney attire? What? You don’t wear your Mickey shirt outside of Disneyland? I do own regular clothes but let’s face it, Disney clothes are way better! And who is to say that we can only wear them at a Disney location? Besides, do you know how much Disney attire costs? Pshhh it is getting worn every day of the week! Haha
You have too much Disney in your room. Well yes I do. Please, enjoy the endless Disney snow globes, the mountains of Disney stuffed animals, and Disney themed posters plastered all over the walls. And that is not even the rest of it! But last time I checked, it is MY room, not yours. Therefore, I shall decorate it with what I please.
Can we not listen to Disney music all day?! So you are telling me that you do not listen to Disney music just for the sake of it? I bet you do not like puppies or rainbows either. Oh wait, you do? Then hush, listen, and feel the magic! It’s good for your soul!
You talk about Disney way too much. Well as true as that may be, it is something that is apart of me and my life. Being friends with me or in a relationship with me, you should know that it comes with my love for Disney. And yes that means constant quotes from Disney movies to cheer you up or comparing you to a Disney character and the need to pick outfits perfect for Disney bounding.
Disney is for kids. Not even! Oh little do you know that Disney was created by grown men! Did you know Walt created Disneyland because he wanted a place for kids AND adults to play? All those animated films were created by grown men for everyone to enjoy. Adults are just big kids at hearts, and Disney helps bring that out.
You need to grow up. That is exactly what Uncle Walt does not want to hear! He feared of growing up. It is okay to be a kid at heart. The trouble is, too many people grow up and lose that spirited nature that children have. When we decided to “grow up”, we lose the imagination and good spirited fun. Disney encourages that. Hence why when you go to Disney Parks, the kid in you is dying to come out, because it is created to be a happy place for the kid in you.
So, fellow Disnerds, do not let these comments deter you from expressing your true love for Disney. Some people have decided to grow up and well, think of it, it is up to us to keep the spirit that Uncle Walt loved and longed for his fans to love. Be merry, spread the Disney love, and sprinkle pixie dust at anyone who disagrees with your love of Disney!
“That’s the real trouble with the world, too many people grow up.”
So here is where I will dive into my first time going to Animal Kingdom, which I believe is my favorite park! Let’s just say it was too much for words to express how excited I was!
As I stepped off the Disney Transportation bus, I immediately began smiling because I could not believe I was actually stepping foot into a WDW theme park. The first thing I see are signs pointing to Animal Kingdom. Next, there is a giant Christmas tree decked out in animal-inspired decorations (keep in mind, I am here the day after Christmas!). Walking forward I see the infamous sign outside of the entrance. The outside instantly reminded me of the San Diego Zoo entrance. This was also my first time using my Magic Band in a Park so that was fun to try, much different than Disneyland Resort!
Upon entering, there is so much green everywhere! We make our way to the right to get to the icon of the park, the Tree of Life. But we quickly see an opportunity to take a photo with Mickey and Minnie Mouse. After seeing the boss couple decked out in their holiday outfits, we finally took the classic photo in front of the Tree of Life. We then proceeded to exploring a little bit of Asia as we tried not to get lost to use our first Fast Pass.
Expedition Everest. I have been waiting years to go on that ride and I finally was able to! Using our Magic Bands for our Fast Passes was probably the coolest thing ever. You feel like VPs! But that ride was better than I could have imagined and unfortunately we didn’t get a chance to get on it again 😦
After conquering the Yeti on Everest, we explored the rest of Asia, going into the Tiger Trek Trail. My God, Animal Kingdom has so many great opportunities for photographers to photograph. It felt like I was in heaven at one point! After Asia, we visited Dino Land, USA to ride Dinosaur. That was pretty fun and interesting. Then we went back to Africa and walked into Harambe Village. The band was performing “Waka Waka” by Shakira and cast members were showing guests dance moves. It was so perfect that moment, I can recall it so vividly as I danced with the rest of the guests in the humid Orlando weather. Magical!
We were fortunate enough to do every major thing in Animal Kingdom. The Kilimanjaro Safaris was so fun, being close to the animals was definitely exciting! After that, we were able to see the beloved Festival of the Lion King. AWESOME SAUCE!!! As a lover of The Lion King, I was like a kid in a candy store singing along to the songs. Oh, by the way, I was part of the lion squad haha. My mom and I tried the guava juice at one of the carts and we took a photo with Donald Duck in his safari outfit (so darn cute and he is my bae, I will explain in a later post!)
Since Animal Kingdom closes earlier than the other parks, we were lucky enough to score dinner reservations at Be Our Guest inside Magic Kingdom for 10:50pm! We were able to get a glimpse at the wondrous Magic Kingdom before our full day there 5 days away. Let me just say that Cinderella’s Castle is beautiful and breathtaking and I wanted to cry at the sight of it! It is magnificent when it is decked out for the holidays! It puts our poor Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland to shame! Haha
Sorry, I am digressing…back to Be Our Guest. It was splendid, the food was phenomenal, the atmosphere was magical! Talk about a Disney experience, it is so worth the money! We even got a picture with the head of the castle, the Beast! In another post, I will happily elaborate more about the restaurant and the full experience.
Well, after that, we went back to our hotel at POP and snuggled into bed until we awake to the next day where we go to…UNIVERSAL STUDIOS ORLANDO!!!
So, this is the beginning of a trip that will change my life forever and open so many doors for me! The days until it was time to fly out flew by and before I knew it, it was time for me to board a plane to Orlando! Our flight was at 8:50pm on Christmas night. The flight there was great but I don’t really enjoy flying (funny because I want to travel the world). I had my 15 year old sister panicking majority of the flight, which was more so hilarious than anything.
We finally arrive in Orlando around 4:15am! Since we were traveling with a group, we all met up to head towards the Magical Express. The airport is definitely filled with a lot of Orlando’s big attractions: SeaWorld, Universal Studios Orlando, and Walt Disney World. Seeing it everywhere while walking to the Magical Express was unbelievably exciting! I cannot even describe what I felt seeing everything knowing I was embarking on something I’ve wanted to do for years.
We head on to the Magical Express and while on the bus, videos play of the resorts and parks offered at Walt Disney World. It was getting everyone excited and pumped to go explore and the bus couldn’t pull into POP Century Resort soon enough! Now, I have heard a lot about Florida humidity and didn’t think much about it because it was winter in December. My oh my! It was so warm compared to the cold we were experiencing in SoCal! We go check in and our Magic Bands (which we had delivered to us a few weeks before the trip) were officially activated to use. Disneyland Resort does not have this technology and it was so cool to use!
My sisters, mom, and I go into our rooms and of course we’re exhausted. We did not have our luggage so we could not change into our clothes for the first day in the parks. Instead, we took a nap until the luggage arrived. Now, I had my clothes organized by the park we were entering. I happily put on my “Hakuna Matata” shirt, shorts, packed my backpack, loaded up my camera, and stepped outside to begin my journey! Hopped on board the Disney Transportation, once it stopped, I step out and look up. I have made it to my first WDW park: Animal Kingdom!
Surfs Up, dude!
My first selfie in Orlando, with Goofy!
Next post, I will dive into my experiences in Animal Kingdom!
